So what did everyone think about the last chapter we just read? I'm still finding it hard to read and stay focussed on his message.

My Class Project
We will be communicating with a first grade class in S. Padre Island. This school is located 2 miles from the Texas Mexico border. We will be Skyping, blogging and writing to our new pen pals. The students will answer a series of questions that they will be using to introduce themselves to their new pen pals through a Skyping session.
New York Standards
Texas penpals will respond to the video via our blog.
Lesson Plan
MultiCultural Education and Social Networking
Spring 2012
Catharine Nobiletti & Lorraine Porcelli
1.SL1 Speaking and Listening
1.SL.6 Speaking and Listening
1.W.6 Production and Distribution of Writing
Objective: Students will design and develop a series of questions that they will communicate via skype to their penpals.
Anticipatory Set
Students will be introduced to their new first grade Texas penpals using a photograph and map on the interwrite board. They will engage in a discussion about the social networking that will take place.
Procedure
After discussion of the objective and viewing the Texas map, the teacher will model, using chart paper, the three questions that children will answer during their skyping session. Students will be given a sheet of paper containing the three questions about themselves. Students will go back to their seat and work independently, answering the questions that they will be asking their penpal.
Teacher will demonstrate the proper way to deliver their information through speaking, listening, and using the correct posture. Students will work with a partner to practice the proper way to deliver their information while skyping.
Children will move into the computer lab where they will participate in a skyping session with their new Texas penpals. Each child will present their information.
Conclusion
Students will gather on the carpet with their partner. In a think-pair-share model, each partner will be responsible for sharing at least one piece of new information that they learned from their Texas penpal.
Assessment
Teacher will be taking anecdotal notes during their oral presentation and the think-pair-share. This information will be used to complete a rubric for each student.
Follow-up
Students will complete a survey indicating their evaluation of the project.Students will be using the flip camera to create a video of the school environment. This video will be placed on our classroom blog. Our
